Sweet Smoke - Just a poke

July 28th, 2005 by Uber Heerser

Sweet
Smoke was formed in New York City but were most popular in Germany and
the Netherlands. Their first album is actually only two songs of each
around 16 minutes long. Their short career ended in 1974 after releasing
a live album which will soon feature on this blog as well. Now you
really don’t have to be a pothead to enjoy this album i assure you, try
it.

Sheer Terror

July 27th, 2005 by Uber Heerser

What to say about this band. Formed in 1985 (I think), last performance
in 2004. I’ll let these two quotes from leadsinger paul bearer speak
for themselves.
About modern-day punk rock fans: “These kids aren’t fooling anyone
about how cool they think they are. They’re the same ignorant suburban
sheep that I hated when I was a kid.”
About Sheer Terror in 1995: “I’m glad we’re at the stage of the game we
are. It’s been ten years now, and I’m thankful we’re not like all these
other friggin’ groups, jumping on bandwagons, playing bad Metal. So be
warned, we’re still here, and we’re not disappearing anytime soon. I
ain’t taking any prisoners, and I’m certainly not in this to make any
friends - so just get the hell out of my way.”

Thanks fer nuthin’

The Politics in hip-hop

July 26th, 2005 by Uber Heerser

Good afternoon, I am Pedigree, your new (kind of) guest-logger. The staff here (well, actually Betsy) thought I could ad something extra to this blog so I got invited to post some stuff every now and then.
My first post (w00t!) wil be about how you can go from Prince Paul to Chris Cornell in a few steps.Prince Paul started out in the eighties, teamed up with Dan the Automator for his first solo release. Few years later they team up again to form Handsome Boy Modeling School. In 2001 Automator joins Blur’s Damon Albarn for cartoon-band Gorillaz nameless debut. For the Gorillaz’ second album, Albarn asks for Dangermouse’s help. Dangermouse, famous because of his “Grey Album”, a mash-up between The Beatles’ “White Album” and Jay-Z’s “Black Album”. Automator later works with dj Shadow on the “Bombay the Hard Way” project. dj Shadow, one of the leading figures of the alternative hip-hip/trip-hop scene collarborates with James Lavelle on the first UNKLE album and goes on tour with Cut Chemist, who is also a member of Jurassic5. Jurassic5 member Chali 2na lays down the vocals on the dj Format track “We Know Something You do’t Know” and on a remix of a Linkin Park track. Shadow also joins forces with former Rage Against the Machine-frontman Zack de la Rocha for the anti-war theme “March of Death” at the begin of Gulf War II. De la Rocha also lends his vocal talents for the Roni Size & Reprazent track “Centre of the Storm”. Roni Size and Soul Coughing perform the song “A Plane Scraped it’s Belly on a Sooty Yellow Moon” on the rock meets techno “Spawn” soundtrack . Zack’s former bandmate Tom Morello also apears on the “Spawn” soundtrack with The Prodigy on “One Man Army”. Also do his former RATM-colleagues form Audioslave with former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell. Voila.

I hope it is all spelled correctly :)
