Tunesday Galore

October 31st, 2005 by Chiel Montagne

Betsy:
Early start tomorrow so I thought I might kick off, and I’d like to set the mood straight away on ‘kazige’ songs. First Agnetha is gonna prove why going solo is sometimes not such a good idea, Fly me to the moon. Second is a little mystery tune for you, the minute someone guesses it I’ll try if I can still find the open dir I got it from, I want to marry a lighthouse keeper. Third and last, king and queen of kazig Bette Midler in a duet with Barry Manilow, I love being here with you. I could say enjoy, but that could be interpretated as being a sadistic remark so I’ll just wish good luck on this ordeal and Happy Tunesday !!

Rams:
My first contribution to kazig is a wonderful song of a Hawaiian guy called Don Ho with Tiny bubbles.

Second: A version of One note Samba from The Anita Kerr singers.

And third: The theme of Midnight cowboy by Martin Denny

pedigree:
For me just one tune today. It has nothing to do with my nickname or anything, it’s just a great tune. Rock on!

R3n3:
For some just a sentimental journey, for others WTF? Just listen

Maks:
A bit of dance-a-like stuff today posted by me. Starting of with Beastie Boys’ protégées Mint Royale and ‘Sexiest Man In Jamaica’.
Second and last, the Belgium rap-crew around Flip Kowlier, ‘t Hof van Commerce with ‘Slaet Ip Min Gat’.

Sergeant Baker:
First a light tune, since the weather is so nice right now: Mountainside by New York ska/rocksteady band The Slackers.

And also a darker tune: an acoustic version of Dredg’s beautiful song Bug eyes.

Chocotofferts:
Wit’s end pardon me and superficial. Ah, by the way anyone interested in 67 meditation sessions of the Dalai Lama?

The Orange Man Project

October 31st, 2005 by 5H0C0

carot

We already had the uber sleep guy. Here’s another:
This guy wants to try carotenemia on himself. If someone eats a whole lot of carrots, they will turn orange for a while. Sort of “you are what you eat” principle. He is life-logging it, the orange man project, while trying this out on himself for 2 weeks.

Today is the last day!

Oceansize live

October 31st, 2005 by Sergeant_Baker

This saturday Oceansize played in LVC, Leiden’s popular music venue. Oceansize, a band from Manchester U.K., have just released their second full length album ‘Everyone into position’, which is getting great reviews all over the world. Being a big fan of them, I was happy to get the chance to see them in my hometown.

Playing with three gitarists and incorporating ingenious rhythms in their sound, Oceansize can be compared with bands like Tool or Mogwai. Oceansize’s sound is more ‘american’ although some british influences are certainly there. The sound quality in LVC was top notch, although the volume was pretty loud. But hey, it’s a rock band. They played most songs of ‘Everyone into position’ and some songs of their first album ‘Effloresce’. Because of the complexity of some of their new songs I was curious if the band was able to play those songs live, but I was very impressed to see that this really is a live band, because the songs were conveyed to the public with a lot of drive and passion. All in all, it was a great show, and I took the chance to buy a (vinyl) double album version of Effloresce (with some great artwork) for my record collection.

Lousy picture made with my cell phone, here is one on Flickr and more (and better) live pictures on their website.

Here’s the torrent. Oh, and since stichting Brein is right, do not forget to buy a copy of their CD (through legal channels) if you happen to ‘dig this shit’.

To all the gays out there

October 31st, 2005 by Maks

In the mid-eighties there was Vanessa (nsfw pic). World famous in The Netherlands because of her two jetsers, and a bit less famous (todays understatement) because of her music. Later on Vanessa, real name Connie Breukhoven, became our own botox-queen, was adopted by the Dutch gay scene and her music became ‘camp’.
And although the weekend has just ended, her music still makes you smile because it’s just so bad and soooo… well, whatever.

Temple Of The Dog

October 30th, 2005 by Maks

A few weeks ago I bumped onto a little chit chat at a not specifically to be mentioned blog between Sergeant Baker, Sifco and goodie2shoes. They were talking about Chris Cornell, Audioslave, Zack de la Rocha, Soundgarden and some others. At that time my thoughts went back to Temple Of The Dog. They made an album (1991) to the memory of Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone) who died in 1990.

The Temple Of The Dog project-members were: Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard (Mother Love Bone), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, later on Audioslave), Matt Cameron (Soundgarden) and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam).
Nuff said. Listen.

cardigans

Oh, Zypher picked this nice sweet link online of the Cardigans album super extra gravity. Damn, I’m going soft too Zypher! Read more about the inside stuff at their site. I did notice that the site requires you to register to see full video of the song “I need some fine wine and you”, however I just happen to see the video (and songsample) in full down here :) Where you can find their live sessions as well. Anyway:
