Sufjan Stevens in Paradiso
October 28th, 2005 by Sergeant_Baker

Yesterday Sufjan Stevens played in Paradiso (sorry for lousy quality). Playing mostly songs from his latest record ‘Come on feel the Illinoise’, his band (all dressed up in sportsclothing, including two girls in cheerleader outfits) is a group of allround musicians, switching instruments easier than spelling the word ‘the’. Almost every song started with a cheerleaderlike intro, which gave the crowd some good laughs. In contrast to the joyful appearance though, Sufjan and his band played all songs with a lot of sincerity, especially “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.” (a song about serial killer John Wayne Gacy, duh) which gave the crowd shivers. It was the last show of the European tour, so they ended up playing two pretty long encores, the last one consisting of an acoustic solo session. Any way, it was great show, so if you ever have the chance to see them live, check them out.

Cool. Quiet a remarkable artist this Sufjan. Should have gone there too…
But well, next weeks friday it’s my turn again at London Calling with Alfie, Kid Carpet, The Zutons, White Rose Movement, Brakes, The Race and Queen Adreena.
I’ll also try to put on a review here with bad mobilephones-pics :)

Just checked fabchannel.com/ (the Paradiso and Melkweg award-winning concertsite) but the concert isn’t on there (yet).

Thanks Maks, wanted to post the fabchannel link also, but I forgot. When the show is on, I’ll add the link to the post. Does Fabchannel also feature Melkweg shows?
London Calling is cool too, good idea to write a review here Maks. Queen Adreena and Zutons should be good.

@Sergeant:
Yep, they also feature Melkweg shows, though not every show is featured (due to rights, money and that kinda stuff I think) so it might well be possible that Sufjan won’t be added…
@Storm:
That’s great, then we don’t have to check ourselves :)
By the way, the pics at File Under are very, very cool usually.
