Sufjan Stevens in Paradiso

October 28th, 2005 by Sergeant_Baker

Yesterday Sufjan Stevens played in Paradiso (sorry for lousy quality). Playing mostly songs from his latest record ‘Come on feel the Illinoise’, his band (all dressed up in sportsclothing, including two girls in cheerleader outfits) is a group of allround musicians, switching instruments easier than spelling the word ‘the’. Almost every song started with a cheerleaderlike intro, which gave the crowd some good laughs. In contrast to the joyful appearance though, Sufjan and his band played all songs with a lot of sincerity, especially “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.” (a song about serial killer John Wayne Gacy, duh) which gave the crowd shivers. It was the last show of the European tour, so they ended up playing two pretty long encores, the last one consisting of an acoustic solo session. Any way, it was great show, so if you ever have the chance to see them live, check them out.
