Oceansize live

October 31st, 2005 by Sergeant_Baker

This saturday Oceansize played in LVC, Leiden’s popular music venue. Oceansize, a band from Manchester U.K., have just released their second full length album ‘Everyone into position’, which is getting great reviews all over the world. Being a big fan of them, I was happy to get the chance to see them in my hometown.

Playing with three gitarists and incorporating ingenious rhythms in their sound, Oceansize can be compared with bands like Tool or Mogwai. Oceansize’s sound is more ‘american’ although some british influences are certainly there. The sound quality in LVC was top notch, although the volume was pretty loud. But hey, it’s a rock band. They played most songs of ‘Everyone into position’ and some songs of their first album ‘Effloresce’. Because of the complexity of some of their new songs I was curious if the band was able to play those songs live, but I was very impressed to see that this really is a live band, because the songs were conveyed to the public with a lot of drive and passion. All in all, it was a great show, and I took the chance to buy a (vinyl) double album version of Effloresce (with some great artwork) for my record collection.

Lousy picture made with my cell phone, here is one on Flickr and more (and better) live pictures on their website.

Here’s the torrent. Oh, and since stichting Brein is right, do not forget to buy a copy of their CD (through legal channels) if you happen to ‘dig this shit’.
