Sometimes I believe that fundamentalists - be they christian or islamic - like each other more than they admit to in public. They press for the same issues Once you have a firm majority, you can build your local version of heaven..

Both heaven and hell do not exist, but try telling fundamentalists that.

oh and sacamano, what’s worse is that the majority of americans did not vote for Bush, and i think even a bigger majority wants equal rights for gay people.

I wonder what are ‘equal rights for gay people’ in the states SB, as far as i know there is no substantial repressive policy towards gays and lesbians over there, at least not openly and supported by any local or federal government. That would swiftly be dealt with by the supreme court who would (how conservative they may be) not be able to ignore the constitution, which in effect is still holier than the bible itself.
The other countries mentioned however do have a repressive policy against gays and lesbians, sometimes even quite openly.
Anyway, the ‘equal rights’ for gays and lesbians in the US largely focusses on discrimination by employers and on the right to marry.
The fact that the US joins a group of nations in their resistance towards gay and lesbian equal rights worldwide can an will only make them look utter ridiculous.

good luck Betsy, and i agree with your last post. My point is that this Bush administration is becoming more extremist with every passing day. Although the constitution is still very important, it can be overruled (Patriot Act, NSA phone tapping etc).
