Status Anxiety (the documentary)

book coverThese last few years I’ve been reading books by Alain de Botton. He can be best described as a philosopher, though what characterises him most is his constant drive to let philosophy be a tool for understanding ourselves and society so that ultimately we might feel better about ourselves. He has written books on numerous subjects including: traveling, architecture, Proust and a true gem called Status Anxiety. This book about a phenomenon that has been plagueing modern man for more than a century has been made into a beautiful television documentary. Somebody gave the folowing description of this documantary: “De Botton’s search for possible cures to status anxiety takes him to churches on both sides of the Atlantic; the bohemian world of punks, nudists and hippies who live by their own rules; and both ancient and modern philosophers.” wich sums it all up pretty nicely. Enjoy!
