Betsy’s vacation/dolmenvlog

September 10th, 2007 by Betsy

I’ve really been neglecting ochblog during my recent holidays, i know you’ve been craving for videofootage of my further exploration of Brittany.

So to make up for all this neglect i’ve cooked up a little vid on my trip to one of the most famous dolmen sites of the world, Carnac.

On the road to Carnac we visited two lesser known sites of menhir, jean babouin and jeanne babouine in a forest near Tredion and La grand Brousse near Ranion.

Both were nearly impossible to find and very secretive, but the joy of finding these illusive menhirs did make me want to find and record the existance of more of them in the future.

Carnac was and is still a very touristic site, due to it’s fame i suppose. Only one field was open for closer inspection and me and Marie took the guided tour and actually enjoyed it, largely because we had a well educated, well mannered and funny guide.

After Carnac there was still time to go look for the “great Menhir” of Locqmariaquer, the site wasn’t free for the public to visit but the 5 euro’s were well spent since there is not only a broken menhir to see but also a tumulus and a great Cairn. Both are dolmen in ther original state, before locals decided to quarry the site for building houses, as did happen up to the fifties of the 20th century such as the great tumulus of Barnenez, which i intend to visit next year.

So we went home quite content and loaded with hundreds of pictures and some video, this vlog is the result, i hope you will enjoy it.

Liefs,
