Tex And The Horseheads

One of the few pictures forever stored in the back of my mind is the one above of Texacala Jones made by Lex van Rossen, the famous Dutch photographer. Van Rossen, who sadly died of cancer almost a year ago, took this picture (one of his personal favourites) at Pandora’s Music Box, an underground music festival in The Netherlands, October 1985. Read more specific info on Pandora and this photo here and more general info on van Rossen here.

Texacala Jones was the sexy screaming siren of Tex And The Horseheads, an eighties cowpunk combo pretty well-known because of it’s live reputation and their explosive cocktail of punk, country, rock, blues and lots of booze. When mentioning TATH, Jeffrey Lee Pierce’s Gun Club is never far away. Partly because of their equal behaviour at the liquor front, but mainly because of the musical affinity between both bands. You could say that The Gun Club was playing their bluesy country rockmusic straight from out of the swamps, as TATH stood at the banks of it, doing their own dirty thing.

Together with drummer Rock Vodka and bass-player Smog Vomit (Seth Gaaikema probably adviced them by choosing names) Texacala recorded their self titled debut-album in 1984. An album that doesn’t reflect the huge excitement, smut and undistinguished sound that came with them on stage, but it does reflect quiet well what it was all about for them at that time. The last track on this debut is a fine cover of ‘Big Boss Man’, originally recorded by blues legend Jimmy Reed. If you would like to hear more of them, search the internets for their second: ‘Life’s So Cool’.

But now, my dear fellow Och-addicts:
MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE?!!
Before you scroll down to search for the download-link and skip all this useless blahblah, I would like to ask you something. Although I have this debut-album and the one pictured below on vinyl myself, I would like to have ‘Tot Ziens’ on mp3 as well. ‘Tot Ziens’ is the live-registration of one of their gigs in The Netherlands in 1985 (this photo is also shot by Lex van Rossen) and was released in 1986.

If there’s anyone out there who can help me, please use the comments to let me know. Cheers!
