The French fashion designer who was the first to let black models walk the cat-walk, and empowered women with business suits, has sky-dived to the after-life. Continue reading ‘Yes, Saint-Laurent est R.I.P.’
What shall we nów having?! I walk this afternoon into a antiekshop and there I find this beautiful postcard with “The Sunny Boys”! So, I thought, let’s look on the internets if they are still as cool as the were on the picture. And what sketches my amazement? There is already another site with ochblogisch that is writing about the biggest hit from The Sunny Boys: “Madonna der Nacht” (”Madonna der nacht, jij bent gekomen, wie had dat gedacht?”). There is a lot more great stuff on “Het beste van toen” or as the webmaster translated so perfectly: “The best from then“! Much pleasure with downloading hè.

Remember when heavy metal was still dangerous? Then you must have grown up in the 1980s. That is when a grassroots movement of bands that (just) wanted to make the loudest music on the planet grew into a mass cultural force, in defiance of critical opinion, moral protests and, probably, God’s will.

A few days ago the city of Arnhem was enriched with a stunningly beautiful and interesting store at the crossroads of art, fashion and design, called ‘Coming Soon: Arnhem’. The store’s goal is to offer young and talented Dutch designers a place to show their clothes (or others) among designers like for instance Orson + Bodil, Francisco van Benthum, Viktor & Rolf and Spijkers en Spijkers who already more or less made it in the world of design and fashion.
There’s also a large collection of Dutch hand-picked designproducts such as porcelain, accessories, gadgets, shoes, bags and rare magazines and books also designed and made by Dutch designers who are currently still bubbling under, but do have the capacity to become ‘huge’ in the very near future.
‘Coming Soon’ is initiated by the Arts Academy Arnhem, ArtEZ.

Thanks to my always hip and on the job trendwatcher-buddy Snelle Sjakie we now learn that Satanism is the (fashion)bomb! Hate to say I told you so…
As an anthropologist with a strong interest in social online communities (or virtual communities) I have a fieldday almost everyday. Because it seems like every day a new community site appears online. Today a friend of mine mailed me this new community website with our famous sex pervert and animal lover Martin Gaus.

It was about time to honour Jean-Charles Castelbajac with an exhibition extraordinaire. The first Paris exhibition of this visionary (fashion)designer, who never ceases to install a clear dialogue between fashion, history, design, art and music is up and running since April the 7th. If you can’t go there, you could, no you háve to at least check his site (full-screen alert) with quiet a good impression of his work.
